BabyCARL – Ear Simulators for children valuable training support in pediatric acoustics
12 CARL ear simulators are in use at the Academy for Hearing Acoustics. Cerumen removal, ear imprints and hearing measuring – all health hazardous tasks can be practiced on these by apprentices and Master students. Two of the ear simulators are smaller than the others. CARLchen simulators are realistic replicas of a children’s head and the Academy for Hearing Acoustics is Germany’s first educational institution to introduce these.
The ear canal of children is much smaller than with adults. With CARLchen it is possible to practice the delicate skills needed to work with children as often as required. The ear simulators are hence a wonderful alternative to human test persons. After all, CARLchen never gets tired and always provides reliable feedback, exactly what a hearing aid professional needs. It is particularly helpful, that the inside view of the hearing organ is transmitted to a screen, giving lecturers the opportunity to watch the entire procedure and give feedback.
The Academy for Hearing Acoustics has integrated these state-of-the-art ear simulators into its Master classes and advanced education training classes in the field of pediatric acoustic since 2022. This allows for additional training opportunities and enables students to practice in the ear canal as often as necessary. With these simulators, the Academy sets a high training standard in the vocational training and continued education of hearing aid professionals in all of Germany, especially in pediatric acoustics.
The little CARLchen ear simulators are very much in demand at the Academy. The next time they will be in use, is the practical part of the pediatric acoustic class and the associated children’s test day early November.
