“MiniMaster” Campus Hearing Acoustics offers Lecture for Kids
„Prick up your ears “, was the motto in the fully occupied auditorium on Campus Hearing Acoustics on September 14, 2024, lecture for children between the age of eight to twelve years. The children’s lecture was part of the „MiniMaster“ series of events. Lena Geschwandtner B. Sc. and Hearing Acoustics Master Craftsman Lukas Rüting, lecturers at the Academy for Hearing Acoustics, explained how hearing works. They also explained what hearing acousticians can do, in case of a hearing impairment. The age-appropriate event with simple experiments and hands-on activities was well received by the approx. 50 curious, young participants.
It’s never too early to encourage young people and share your passion for your own profession. That’s why the Academy for Hearing Acoustics (afh) joined the Luebeck „MiniMaster“ series of event again with a lecture suitable for a young audience.
In an understandable and interesting way, afh lecturers Lena Geschwandtner Lukas Rüting explained to their young audience how hearing works. They covered the middle and inner ear and the functions of hearing. Moreover, they discussed the effects of a hearing loss and how hearing aid professionals can help mitigate it. Interactive experiments made the lecture lively and were very well received. There were many amazed children’s faces during the tuning fork experiment on the transmission of sound waves. In a listening task at the end of the event, the audience was asked to identify animal noises and everyday sounds from a piece of music. The children participated actively and obviously had a lot of fun. With many new insights, they left the Hearing Acoustics Campus for home.
The „MiniMaster“ series of lectures provides children with the opportunity to get to know places of science and education in Luebeck and meet with lecturers and researchers. This extra-curriculum activity promotes understanding and access to exciting topics and current issues, which can only be dealt with briefly during the regular school classes. The lectures each last 45 minutes and are free of charge. For organizational reasons, a registration is required. Children can collect stamps for their attendance and once they have reached a certain number, they will be named „MiniMaster“ at the closing event.
The lecture series is organized by the Luebeck University’s Schülerakademie and LH3, a joint project of the Musikhochschule Luebeck, the University of Applied Sciences and the Luebeck University. After the great interest in this year’s „Prick up your ears“ lecture for children, afh willl also participate in the Luebeck MiniMaster program as a partner in the Luebeck Network for Education and Research next year
