High-tech Ear Simulators at the afh: Manufacturer from Canada pays a visit

The afh will soon be the first educational institution in all of Germany to use state-of-the-art ear simulators in the training and further education. On October 10, 2022, a team of AHEAD Simulations from Canada visited the afh and was available for questions.

How can we offer practical training in the ear, while at the same time ensuring the patient’s safety? With the twelve new high-tech simulators from Canada with the smart product name CARL, we can soon train manual works, as the removal of cerumen or in-situ/audio measuring in order to fit hearing systems without test persons. A camera in the simulator transmits the inside view to a screen, thus enabling afh lecturers to observe how course participants proceed in the realistically designed ear simulation and give them feedback right away.

At first, the simulators will be mainly used in the Master Craftsmen/women preparatory classes, then the use in the industry-wide training for apprentices will be tested. With this new technology, used for the first time in Germany, the afh underlines its role as a center of competence for hearing acoustics, which offers cutting-edge equipment and sets standards in training and continued education in Germany and beyond. The technology is funded by the program „Digitalisierung in überbetrieblichen Bildungsstätten“(digitalization in industry-wide training institutions) of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

At the exhibition stand Campus Hearing Acoustics (hall 6/booth 306) during the International EUHA congress, which takes place at the Hanover trade fair center from October 12 to 14, you will have the opportunity to have a look at the afh’s latest innovative teaching tool.
