The “Hearing Care Assistant” program qualifies your staff for practical tasks within the specialist practice while offering opportunities for career advancement.
The dual training system forms the foundation of the high professional standards and outstanding customer satisfaction found in the hearing care trade. The path involving a three-year apprenticeship—combining on-the-job training at a specialist practice with instruction at the vocational school and the Academy in Lübeck—leading to the journeyman’s examination and eventually the Master Hearing Care Professional qualification, will remain the standard and preferred route for a career in this field.
However, there are individuals and life circumstances for whom the dual training model is not the right entry point into the hearing care profession—whether because the apprenticeship format does not suit the individual or because the goal of obtaining a journeyman’s certificate seems out of reach.
To address these situations, the Academy for Hearing Care (via its service subsidiary) offers a modular course system designed to provide flexible, practice-oriented preparation for roles within a hearing care business.
Depending on personal aptitude and interests, participants can take various modules—such as those covering audiometry or providing advice on assistive systems and home-based equipment.
This approach offers complete flexibility regarding both course content and scheduling, allowing for a gradual progression toward more complex and responsible tasks based on each individual’s development and interests.
The specialist assistant role is not a dead end, either: with the full range of advanced modules and sufficient practical experience, the skills acquired can be demonstrated through an external journeyman’s examination, leading to a formal vocational qualification. The Academy supports this pathway as well.

The foundational module is a prerequisite for all subsequent courses and prepares participants to acquire the various practical skills needed in a hearing care practice.
The module takes place entirely online. We provide multimedia self-study units on the learning platform that can be completed at your own pace and in any order. To complete the module, you must work through all the learning content and pass a final test for each topic.

The “Basic Audiometry” course provides practical preparation for performing hearing tests in a specialist practice. It covers both pure-tone and speech audiometry, including masking techniques.
The course is held as a two-day practical workshop at the Hearing Acoustics Campus in Lübeck. Participants are required to acquire the necessary foundational knowledge independently prior to the practical session. To facilitate this, we provide multimedia self-study modules on our learning platform, which can be completed at your own pace and in any order.
Course objectives at a glance
- Conducting preliminary audiological consultations, evaluating customer information prior to audiometry, and selecting appropriate audiometric procedures
- Competent operation of the measurement system and correct placement of transducers
- Instructing the customer on pure-tone audiometry and selecting appropriate settings based on the preliminary consultation
- Performing masking measurements in accordance with pure-tone audiometry masking protocols
- Correct placement of headphones
- Selecting appropriate presets for speech audiometry, providing full instructions for the procedure, and conducting measurements in the correct sequence

Dieses Modul bereitet praxisnah auf unterstützende Tätigkeiten bei der Hörsystemanpassung vor. Von der Beratung über die Erstanpassung (FirstFit) und InSitu-Perzentilanalyse bis zur Feineinstellung. Zudem werden Strategien zur Nutzung von Hörassistenzsystemen, häuslichen Anlagen, digitalen Übertragungsanlagen und Apps vermittelt.

The “Milling Basics” module provides practical preparation for crafting custom-made earmolds—in ring, claw, and clasp styles—from blanks.

The “Basic Commercial Tasks” course provides practical preparation for dealing with issues regarding statutory warranties and customer legal capacity—situations frequently encountered in hearing care practices. It also covers product presentation and marketing, as well as written communication with customers, authorities, and business partners.
The course is conducted entirely online. We provide multimedia self-study units on the learning platform that can be completed at your own pace and in any order. To complete the module, you must work through all the course material and pass a final test for each topic.

The “Otoplastik” (Ear Mold) basics course provides practical preparation for creating ear canal packs and taking impressions of the client’s ear.
Please note: You must complete all online course material prior to the practical workshop in Lübeck. Passing the final test is a prerequisite for participation.

- Safely performing otoscopy to assess the size and shape of the ear canal
- Preparing custom cotton packing and professionally modifying standard packing materials
- Inserting packing and assessing its positioning and seal
- Performing ear impressions under supervision, ensuring correct syringe handling during the process
- Smoothing and rounding off earmolds and safely finishing fractured edges
- Sealing treated areas with lacquer to prevent allergic tissue reactions

Course objectives at a glance
- Fault analysis of hearing systems of various designs, including documentation of identified defects, identification of root causes, and determination of appropriate remedial measures
- Mechanical cleaning of hearing systems (microphone openings, wax filters, controls, power supply/battery compartment/charging cradle)
- Replacement of defective components (e.g., ear hooks, filters, receiver units)
- Removal of debris from earmolds; cutting sound tubes to length and pre-bending them, using appropriate tools such as tube pliers
- Replacement of sound tubes on hard earmolds
