AHH is one of the most important specialist conferences for hearing aid professionals, audiologists and ENT doctors in the Middle East and North Africa. Copyright\/Photographer: biha.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, Jakob Stephan Baschab, Director of the Academy of Hearing Acoustics, travelled to the specialist conference in Jordan with a German delegation of experts. The delegation included Nicole Meyer, Board Member of the European Union of Hearing Aid Acousticians (EUHA); Boris Ricking, Board Member of the Federal Guild of Hearing Aid Acousticians (biha); and Hans-J\u00f6rg Friese, President of the Rheinhessen\/Mainz Chamber of Crafts. Their presence underscored the importance of international professional exchange in improving care for people with hearing loss and in qualifying hearing aid professionals around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his specialist presentation at AHH 2026, the Director of the Academy of Hearing Acoustics explored the potential and limitations of teleaudiology. Teleaudiology can complement preventive and follow-up care, as well as the systematic support of patients, particularly in regions where geographical gaps in access to services exist. It can help where resources are limited, but does not replace the initial diagnosis of hearing loss or the fine-tuning of hearing systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/deafness-and-hearing-loss\">According to the World Health Organization (WHO),<\/a> more than five per cent of the world\u2019s population \u2013 or 430 million people \u2013 require rehabilitation to address their disabling hearing loss, including 34 million children. It is estimated that by 2050 over 700 million people \u2013 or 1 in every 10 people \u2013 will have disabling hearing loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cConnecting across national borders and continents is central to our work as a WHO partner, as we seek to improve hearing healthcare around the world sustainably,\u201d said biha Vice-President Boris Ricking. \u201cIn our sector, we set and uphold the highest quality standards to provide the best possible care for children and adults with hearing loss.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Campus Hearing Acoustic in L\u00fcbeck and its dual training programme for hearing aid professionals serve as models around the world. In his presentation at the conference in Amman, the biha Vice-President discussed the opportunities offered by Auracast. The new Bluetooth standard, which is also being installed at the Campus Hearing Acoustic in L\u00fcbeck, promotes connectivity and accessibility. This is another step towards improving access to speech in public places for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both presentations attracted considerable interest from the specialist audience, which had travelled to AHH 2026 from many countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the conference organiser, 4A brings together medical and audiological interests from across the Middle East in the field of hearing loss rehabilitation. It brings together the Academy of Hearing Acoustics (afh) and the Federal Vocational School for Hearing Aid Professionals (LBS). The LBS is the central vocational school for apprentices training to become hearing aid professionals. The afh provides inter-company training for apprentices, master craftsman courses and further training, including in paediatric audiology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What can teleaudiology do?<br>Teleaudiology can complement preventive and follow-up care and support for people with hearing loss &#8211; particularly where distances are great or gaps in service provision exist. It does not replace the initial diagnosis of hearing loss or the individual fine-tuning of hearing systems by qualified professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What is Auracast?<br>Auracast is a Bluetooth standard for transmitting audio wirelessly to compatible hearing systems and other receiving devices. In public places, the technology can make it easier to access announcements and audio services, thereby promoting connectivity and accessibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How is the Academy of Hearing Acoustics involved internationally?<br>The Academy of Hearing Acoustics in L\u00fcbeck is a partner of 4A and regularly contributes to the AHH programme. Its professional exchange with 4A\u2019s audiologists covers areas including clinical care, cochlear implants, the fitting of hearing systems and the training of hearing aid professionals. The Academy of Hearing Acoustics also supports countries in developing vocational training programmes, participates in international education agreements and has delivered advanced courses for hearing aid professionals in English language in L\u00fcbeck, Germany, for more than 15 years as part of the International Summer Academy (ISA).
